Some More Differences

My sister Meredith and I are going to Clemson in the morning for the Georgia Tech game and to visit with some old college friends. We are both very much looking forward to a little sister time. My darling husband got us tickets, a parking pass and even a hotel room so we won't have to be driving late at night. Since I will be gone for a whole day and night I have been working just a little bit harder to get the house picked up, laundry all caught up, food in the pantry, my clothes packed, lists of the activities the kids should be attending written etc. I can't help but laugh at how different it is when my man goes away for a night or two. He puts his clothes in a bag and leaves. No need to make a major production out of it. Just hop in the truck and head out. We are wired so differently.

Another example of our differences:
When my sister in law, Timmy's sister, called me last night with the wonderful news that I am going to have another niece or nephew I was ecstatic. I cried, jumped up and down and started thinking about all the great memories she is making. I asked her if Timmy knew yet and she told me that yes he has actually known for about a week. A week and he hadn't mentioned it to me once. Of course I immediately called him and asked him about it. Know what his respones was? Nonchalantly he said "I haven't had time to tell you." Oh my word, seriously? No time to tell me that your own sister is expecting? No time in a whole week? I had to laugh. If she had called me first I would have called him as soon as I hung up with her to share such wonderful news.

Life is Good

Oh how true it is that life is good. I am incredibly blessed to have my precious family, healthy and happy. But I must say that I think life is just a little better when you are at the beach. We spent a beautiful Autumn weekend at Mom and Dad's place in Garden City doing nothing special but hanging out together. It's nice to get away from home from time to time to just be us. The fall and winter are my favorite times to be at the beach. I enjoy the more laid back quiet atmosphere at our end anyway but this time of year it is so peaceful without large crowds.
Our mornings were spent relaxing on the porch, sipping coffee and hot chocolate while looking
this view.

The boys spent their mornings doing a little fishing in the surf.
We all had fun looking for shells.

We found a bunch of star fish too.
A little art project with all the shells we found. It's a tiger paw.

No trip to the beach is complete without a photo shoot for mom.

Clemson Homecoming

We had a fantastic time this past weekend visiting our beloved Clemson for homecoming. If you are not a Clemson fan (I simply can't imagine such a thing) you probably don't know what our homecoming is all about. Different organizations from the school work all week putting together floats on Bowman field for judging. There are tons of different activities leading up to the big game. Friday night before the game they put on a huge pep rally called Tigerama. There are skits, musical groups and the crowning of the homecoming queen. We took our children to Tigerama. The kids all loved every minute of it especially the football team rap. Check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq-r1NeFGwk for the youtube video of Josh's new favorite song. He and his daddy sang it all day long on Saturday.
Yeah We're all in.

We were up and going by 8:00 Saturday morning to do a little tailgating and touring some of the campus. The game didn't quite turn out like we had hoped but we had fun in spite of the score. After the game we walked through the floats on Bowman Field before heading downtown to look around the stores a bit. The crowds were huge and as I get older I am less tolerant of them but I do love my school and love sharing it with my children.
Josh and his daddy threw the football a bunch while we were tailgating.

The Difference Between Mom and Dad

The mornings in our house are, as you would expect, chaotic but my most favorite moment of the day also takes place in the midst of all the insanity. I love to wake up my children, especially Josh. I snuggle up to him and he grouches that he doesn't want to get up then after some smooches and hugs and a few pokes in the ribs he is laughing and giving me the best hugs. It is so nice to have that time with him without any distractions or naughty behavior. I leave him to get up and dressed and journey the girls room to wake them up with a silly song and some big hugs. Since it is still pretty early in the school year they are not too hard to wake up and even smile for me. I'm sure the day is coming when I have to use a cattle prod to get them going but so far it's been great even on those days when we have overslept.

Here's where the title of my little story comes into play. This morning was an overslept morning so their daddy was in charge of getting the children up while I got ready. How does daddy wake up his precious angels? He yells from the den to get up. No hugs, silly songs and cuddles just a yell. Now I am happy that he gets the kids up and they don't seem to mind his way so I am not complaining. I just find the differences between our parenting styles humorous and sometimes confounding. Life is so good.

We Are Ready For Some Football

Clemson or Carolina? Who really cares when you have the Lee County Recreation Department 6 and 7 year old football teams. It is so much fun to watch the little boys learn to play and develop as athletes. Josh is playing for the Sonoco team that his daddy is helping coach. I had my apprehensions about letting my "baby" play football since he is so small but the child loves all sports and is loving every minute of being out there. He is playing quarterback right now which I hope means he won't get tackled quite as much. Lots of his school buddies are also playing which makes for more fun and just a bit of competition.

This Saturday there was a jamboree for all of the Rec. Department football teams. It was actually a lot more fun than I thought. Life is so good.
